Why are "their" beginners so much further ahead of mine? Where should my beginners be in the book by Christmas? What about by the end of the year? What do you mean clarinets go over the break by Christmas? Your trumpets have a "G" at the top of the staff at the end of the first year? Your percussion can play what? If you teach beginning band, you have either thought about those questions or been on the receiving end of them. The honest answer is "it depends." It depends on variables such as how the beginners are scheduled, number of teachers, age started, and many other details. This session will discuss all of these variables and then provide you with the tools to be able to plot out a curricular time line that helps you to establish the pacing of your beginners based on your specific situation.
