Electrify Your Choir - Helping Your Students to Break Through Their Fears and Give Their Most Authentic Performances

SATURDAY JUNE 13 | 13:00 MT

Presented by Laura Kaye

Every choir has students who lack the confidence to own the spotlight and the stage. In this session led by rock vocalist/vocal coach Laura Kaye, you will learn new ways to motivate and inspire all of your students to discover their creative wings and SOAR! Laura will demonstrate a combination of techniques such as theater-inspired improv exercises and high-energy choreography designed to emphasize the material, and she will give you critical insight into helping your students create their own unique stage character; work with a microphone; and engage an audience. The goal is for all of your students to embrace their unique vocal styles and sing with their bodies as well as their voices, requiring many of them to overcome their fears and step out of their comfort zones and into the spotlight. These methods are applicable in all areas of your curriculum, from traditional choral pedagogy to alternative styles and more. When your choir approaches material from a strong and confident perspective, it won’t matter if students are in the front row or the back row! Their performances will evolve naturally and soar! Enabling your ensemble to express themselves creatively at the highest level possible empowers them with many critical and essential skills they will use in every aspect of their daily lives long after they leave your classroom.
