Introducing Students to World Cultures Through Songs, Movement and Fun: Using Interactive World Music in your Elementary Classroom

FRIDAY JUNE 12 | 7:30 MT

Presented by Jay Sand

"Introducing Students to World Cultures Through Songs, Movement and Fun" will be a engaging workshop that will provide teachers of elementary school children with an introduction to classroom-proven methods for providing global cultures instruction to their students through the mutual enjoyment of multicultural music, dance and cultural experiences. Participants will pat, clap and dance along -- yes, across the internet! -- with Jay Sand, founder and lead teacher of All Around This World, a global cultures program for infants to 9 year-olds, as their students would in the classroom, learning how to do effective and respectful multicultural work with a variety of age groups in a diversity of settings. The workshop will identify and provide solutions to the many challenges, from lack of age-appropriate global curriculum materials to the perceived lack of instructional time, that prevent educators from providing international education to their students. Jay will share music from several continents with lyrics in several languages, and teachers will learn how to effectively introduce those songs in their classrooms regardless of their own musical ability or previous knowledge of languages or international culture.
