During a time when distance learning is a reality for many schools and districts, creative expression through music and virtual connections can play a vital role in supporting a child’s social-emotional well-being and help to maintain a strong sense of community. In this 90-minute interactive session, music educators, classroom teachers, and curriculum designers will gain new tools and tips for building an engaging virtual classroom that strengthens social connections between students and unleashes their creative expression. Participants will take part in activities that demystify the music-making process, gain new ideas for integrating academic and arts curriculum, and work with various free/low-cost music technology resources that teachers and students alike can begin using right away. Participants are encouraged to attend this virtual session on laptops/desktops computers and be ready to make music together!
During this session:
- Participants will learn about and use various free, browser-based music tech applications.
- Participants will gain new ideas for incorporating tech in your virtual/hybrid instrumental and general music classes for a multitude of age levels and abilities.
- Participants will learn how to compose singable, playable, meaningful melodies in a matter of minutes.
- We will explore sample student projects that use tech to support student-centered learning, interdisciplinary curriculum, and composition.
