Hitting the General Music Jackpot for Middle and High School Teachers
Many music teachers are now finding themselves assigned to teaching classes that they have never taught before and for which they have few or no resources. There has also been a sharp increase in the number of social media posts where middle and high school music teachers are asking for ideas for teaching general music and music appreciation classes. The good news is that there are volumes of resources available (and many are free!), and this session will provide participants with resources and strategies for teaching general music at the middle and high school level.
Session Objectives:
- How to use a positive mindset when teaching secondary general music to better the experience for both students and you
- How to modify existing resources to meet students' needs and interests, assessment, and enjoyment of your class
- How to incorporate pop culture references to teach musical concepts and engage with students
