Exploring Concepts and Inquiry in the General Music Classroom

Many schools are recognizing the power of inquiry to transform learning from simple memorization of facts into deeper understanding of big concepts. This session will give you the understanding and tools to begin incorporating these ideas into your general music classroom. In this session you will familiarize yourself with what inquiry and concept-based learning are, and how they could look within your curriculum. You will explore some ways you can adapt your teaching and assessment to guide your students toward a stronger understanding and appreciation of music as an expressive art. You will leave this session with some activities you can use and adapt with classes in your K-8 general music classes.
