Hip-hop meets classical music: Bridging the gap

Orchestral and Hip-Hop music are very similar and that merging them is not impossible -- it is inevitable. Incorporating hip-hop or classical music in your K-12 classroom can be difficult but don't worry- I have tools for you. From how to search for hip hop songs that use classical music samples, how to find appropriate samples and show how classical music can positively influence Hip-hop. It is a great tool to teach students to actively listen for a different side of classical music. There is an electric synergy when students listen to Nas's sampling of Beethoven's Fur Elise in -I Can, they can identify the classical song, create lyrics and perform. The key is making students songwriters and storytellers. I will give you tools on how can you help students pull from their emotions and being comfortable with being uncomfortable.
