If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them-Digital Music Education Technology to Inspire Your Students to Practice
Presented by Chris Thür & Juan Valencia
In today’s fast-paced digital world, music education is as crucial as ever. However, with the temptations of online entertainment, it can be hard to motivate the students to practice. Many lose motivation and often quit too soon. Toronto based music teacher Juan Valencia also know by his students as Mister V, changed this pattern by introducing Yousician into his school classroom. Yousician is an award-winning music education service developed in Finland with tens of millions of users all over the world. For the past six years, Mister V has been using Yousician to teach guitar and ukulele classes of up to 30 students in an innovative and engaging way. His students not only learn the instrument, but they also develop a genuine love for making music, so they keep up the hobby long after they left school. The quitting rate of students is pretty much 0 today. In this session, Chris Thür, CEO of Yousician, will share the background of Yousician, and how the company is working with music teachers from all over the world to “make musicality as common as literacy.” In the second half, Mister V will then share his experience using Yousician in the classroom, and why so many teachers are adopting his gamified group lesson approach. He’ll share tips and tricks on how to get started. Ideally, after this presentation, you have a good understanding of what gamified group lessons are, and know what to do if you want to try it with your students. Note: If you want to experience a lesson from the student’s perspective, we recommend you attend the interactive live-lesson "Engage, Enrich and Empower your Students with Yousician’s Gamified Approach" held by Mister V.
