Preparing 3rd Graders for Success on Soprano Recorder
Are you wondering how to successfully teach the soprano recorder? Or, are you wondering why some students fall behind here? This session will show the steps it takes to build up to musical literacy on the soprano recorder. The presenter will show all of the pre-reading steps that can be taken leading up to the recorder unit, and the building blocks to create literate recorder players in the classroom. Games, activities, and manipulatives will be shown, as well as an organizational framework for pre-reading skills and preparation. An outline of how the unit is organized will be presented and the order of skill teaching will be discussed with activity suggestions.
The session will:
Show an outline of pre-reading skills the students need in order to be literate musicians on the recorder.
Organize the recorder unit into building blocks so that teachers see a systematic approach to teaching literacy.
Show different ways to combine the elements of pitch, rhythm and technique for maximum internalization of concepts.
