I have to Teach What?: Strategies for Building Student-Centered General Music Classes

This presentation will outline strategies and for building engaging student-centered general music classes. This presentation/discussion will focus on areas that are crucial to general music classes such as reaching non-traditional music students, overcoming band scheduling, creating relevant and exciting curriculum, challenging educator bias, and strategies on how to communicate with the administration in regards to general music classes. Also, this presentation will present ideas on how to integrate popular and multicultural music and technology. From this presentation, attendees will learn about different approaches to general music and innovative ways to make learning meaningful.
